Children are very welcome at Jembisa and they love it! There are lots of specialised childrens activities and programmes designed for all ages, plus a games room, toys, books, etc. Meals can be specially planned for them and there are babysitters/nannies for the small ones.

We are famed for our cuisine, produced by our 2 chefs. Meals are delightful events in various locations- under the stars, bush picnics,etc . Cuisine is international with a local twist. Special requests and celebration dinners welcomed.
Curio shop
We have a small curio shop that sells African crafts, jewellery, some clothing, hats and postcards.
There are 3 doctors in the closest town, 50 kms away.
Electricity – is from the national grid. Sockets are large roundpin, 220v. Adapters are available to purchase at the lodge. Occassionally there are power cuts. Jembisa has a generator that covers the key functions during these.

Getting Around at Jembisa

Guests are driven in the lodge vehicles around the reserve and to local excursions. For self-drive guests a vehicle with high clearance is recommended for reserve driving.

Getting to Jembisa
Jembisa is easily accessible by road from Johannesburg. The journey  takes about 3 hours of which 15 minutes is on sand roads. Guests flying in to airports are usually met and transferred by road or air. Any guests wishing to self-drive and who need car hire can contact us for suggested agencies. There are strict rules regarding passports on entering South Africa.  Passports need to have 3 completely blank pages and be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the return date of the visit.  Visas are not usually required for European and north American guests, however requirements must be confirmed with the relevant embassies. South Africa requires any under-aged children travelling to South Africa to have UNABRIDGED Birth Certificates. We do not take responsibility for travel documentation requirements, this stays the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
We recommend tetanus and hepatitis as a precaution Please take up-to-date medical advice.

Medical Facilities
Jembisa has a medical aid kit on hand at the lodge. Closest town for medical attention would be Vaalwater - 40km and/or Potgietersrus/Mookopong . Potgietersrus (Mokopane) is approximately 60-80min drive, and Nylstroom (Modimolle) is 60-70min drive.
Jembisa has covered parking at the lodge for 5 vehicles.

Safe Deposit
There is a safe in each room of the lodge.
The local town (40km) has basic shops including a pharmacy, banks, supermarket and very good craft and curio shops. Guests can be driven to town.
Size of Jembisa
Jembisa is situated on our privately owned Palala River Reserve which is 3000ha large.
Visas are not necessary for European or North american visitors. For other nationalities please check with your local embassy. In all cases requirements must be confirmed with the relevant embassies.
Water is provided by borehole for the lodge use.
What to pack / Clothing
Clothing lightweight- shorts, cotton shirts, cotton trousers, swimming costume, sunhat. A light jersey or fleece for those visiting between April and October.
Footwear – as well as sandals or open-toed shoes for the lodge. We recommend some more substantial closed toe shoes for the bush and evenings, particularly if planning to do bush walking, such as trainers, or walking shoes. Sun cream, binoculars, camera, video camera, sunglasses, guidebooks – some are also available for use at the lodge.
