Wedding examples

Below is a typical example of a eight-day wedding itinerary.

Day 1: Depart

Depart London Heathrow for overnight flight to Johannesburg.

Day 2: Arrive and Welcome

Arrive Johannesburg at 0720. You will be met at Johannesburg Airport and driven to Jembisa Lodge (3 hours) where you will be welcomed by your hosts Jane and Steven. Refreshing drinks and lunch will be served on the veranda overlooking the garden.  We will leave you to relax during the afternoon, have a swim and enjoy the peace and beautiful surroundings. Over tea we will join you to discuss final arrangements and finishing touches for your wedding day. In the evening you and your family can enjoy a game drive and sundowners at one of our favourite view points before being served dinner back at the lodge.

Day 3: Relax and Anticpation

After a leisurely lie in we will serve a breakfast of tropical fruit platter, yogurt and cereals, homemade muffins and an optional cooked breakfast. You and your family will be able to choose from a range of activities for the day including tennis, swimming, massages, fishing, mountain biking, game drives, guided bush walks or relaxing by the pool. Preparations will be underway for the following day and you can ensure that everything is as per your wishes. A pre-wedding celebratory dinner will be served in our lantern lit garden under the African stars.

Day 4: You Big Day!

Your wedding day! You may choose a quiet start to the day with a champagne breakfast in bed before starting your personal preparations. If desired we can also arrange a professional beautician and hairdresser to come to the lodge to help with hair and makeup.  Your wedding will then take place in your chosen spot and at a chosen time, and the celebrations will ensue. You may choose to have the local African choir and a simple meal in the bush or a more lavish affair. We encourage you to have a photographer to capture the day. We will take you to stunning view points and hopefully get some beautiful shots later in the day when the African sun glows golden.

Day 5: Relax, Chill and Recover

A full cooked breakfast to help all recover! Game drives will be organised for anyone keen to see some more African wildlife, or guided bush walks for those who want a real up close and personal experience! Jembisa is home to an abundance of wild animals including Giraffe, Hippo, Crocodile, Zebra, many different types of Antelope, the endangered White Rhino, and the elusive Leopard.
In the afternoon we will take you to Vaalwater the local town to have a look in the curios shops and meet the community. From here we will organise a football game with the local African team, and you may be invited to play with them.

Day 6: Action in the Bush

Another action packed day in the bush! We can take you to a nearby Big 5 reserve to spot Africa’s magnificent elephant and lion. The brave can ride the elephants, and for the adrenalin seekers, we can even arrange a helicopter flight spotting game and enjoying stunning scenery from the air. In the evening we will serve a typical South African Braai ( barbeque ) and you have the option of sleeping out on camp beds under the stars.  This is a rare opportunity to fully experience the wilderness at night and wake with the African dawn.

Day 7: A Final Day to Explore

One final day to explore the reserve and spot your favourite African wildlife. We will also take you to our spring fed wetlands which are home to a host of stunning African birdlife. Whilst out, our guides will also taking you climbing down a rock face to show you some original bushman’s paintings on the rock. That evening we will serve you a final romantic dinner in the lodge.

Day 8: Farewell and Adieu!

Private transfers to Johannesburg airport for your return flight back to London, or your onward flight.
